Tomorrow Firmware PR 1.2 for Nokia N900

Tomorrow Nokia will launch the new version of firmware for our Nokia N900, the expected firmware PR 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1) which will enable many applications that does not work now.

Some of the improvements are:

  • We may use applications and games that now does not work.
  • Improved communication and email.
  • Facebook IM chat
  • Video call.
  • Portrait browsing on the internet is a-go on the N900.
  • Ovi Maps, update the user interface.
  • A change to the menu system UI with the first level now customisable.
  •

    The bad news is this:

Moving away from the update and to look at MeeGo and the Nokia N900. Many of you have been asking whether the new MeeGo platform will be supported on the N900 once it’s device-ready.  Although Nokia N900 devices are being used for platform development and testing purposes by those involved in the MeeGo project, we don’t have plans for a full scale commercial MeeGo upgrade on the Nokia N900. The reason? It’s really about ensuring that you have the best possible experience designed for the features on your Nokia N900 device.  Nokia realises this news may be a disappointment for some, rest assured that Nokia will continue to support the core Maemo software on your Nokia N900, as evidenced by the PR 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1) update available today.

      Thanks.
PR 1.2 is realy imporved update and it has more improvement on N900…hope to see more from Maemo future….great job!!!

    21. Viraj says:

nokia’s os is installing to a location called root. it only got 250MB of space for the os. when you are installing applications, they are using root’s space. so finally when you are trying to install a firmware update, it say’s not enough memory..

for get rid of it you have to remove all the installed applications in your device. (but sometimes even you remove all of it,you won’t be able to fully free the root space… =( )

so what im telling is… use NOKIA SOFTWARE UPDATER from nokia web site. Use it and update your device. Even I did the same thing..

      Soo…good luck =) =)

    28. Steve says:

i updated the phone, i was kind of good. but the main web browser doesnt work

    29. J.Patel says:

In UK if you’re with Vodafone, you still have to wait few more days until Vodafone Tech Department makes the update OTA update available. I believe you can still update the firmware via nokia website.

    30. David says:

thanks a lot J.Patel, i am with vodafone. I guess ill have to wait for them to get it sorted because it still doesnt work when i connect my n900 to the computer using the nokia software updater, it tells me that my software is all up to date.

    37. PADIGELSA says:

      Hi there,
is there anyone who has updated via OTA or Nokia updater having Vodafone UK?
So far still got the 2.2009….version and no chance to update using the updater or OTA.

I do NOT want to use flasher to install it. How I could sort this out?

    38. msr says:

just want to share that i was about to give up on the update but then i saw a comment by someone who got the ota working after he uninstalled tuxracer.

i tried this approach and to my surprise the OTA update worked.

    39. stevoUK says:

PADIGELSA im vodafone uk i cant update either way either. its ridiculous why wont vodafone release it yet, what the hell are they doing as if we havnt waited long enough to see any action on our terrible n900, apparently the vodafone tech guys have not released it yet i tried ringing them and just hit a brick wall with some polish woman telling me use the updater from nokia!! pathetic n900 pathetic vodafone

    40. Tom says:

For those of you saying you’re trying the ctrl-shift-o thing for portrait browsing it doesn’t work that way anymore. You have to set it in the web browser settings. Just go to options in the browser, then settings and check the box that says enable rotation.

    41. mattongkang says:

Hi Tom, l already check the enable rotation box in the option, but still it didn’t turn to portrait mode.

    42. lola says:

i live in the uk , i have vodafone as my network and a n900.. wot is going on i havent got my update.. i tried software updater it keeps sayin i got the latest one.. and i tried ota but nothings coming up wot is going on literally ive been waitin for so long now

    43. stevoUK says:

lola, the arseholes at vodafone feel that more testing is needed before they release it to vodafone customers, ur not the only one believe me its distgusting what they are doing. nokia have already done the appropriate testing why the hell do vodafone need to take the piss and require even more testing. u can flash the phone but im certainly not willing to risk it. if ur phone breaks because you flash it vodafone wont replace it or fix it, even if you have full warranty and even insurance. the chip in the device detects if you alter it and will simply brick the device if not done properly so vodafone will check the chip and just tell you to go away if they see you have tried to flash it. best thing you can do is wait or complain like i have on the vodafone eforum!! sorry

    44. lola says:

well StevoUK .. thank you for what youve just told me .. atleast someone kind enough to tell others properly what is happening.. narr i aint going to flash it.. same i aint going to risk it.. i love dis foneee i dnt wanna ruin it lol.. no need to apologise.. but thanks again for ur help..

    45. lola says:

still they havent put the update for vodafone up wots going on!!!!!!!11

    46. stevoUK says:

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/61406-n900-where-can-i-download-pr-12/ check that link out it will explain alot. regiester aswell lola and voice your opinions like the rest of us, its bloody annoying now. VODAFONE = BADDDDDD

    47. stevoUK says:

the new update is ready and should be on its way in around 10 days to all vodafone uk users!!! finally, however the downside is that they havnt told us what release it will be yet!! it could be 1.1 or 1.2. if its 1.1 then there wont be much change and you still wont be able to access the ovi store, hope your all releaved as i am. its down to nokia now to release the update not vodafone they have done there part. HURRAY!

    48. stevoUK says:

latest news from vodafone. the new update will be 1.2 so we will b on par with every other n900 user in the world!! :) about damn time hope your all as happy as i am
