Still not in the Maemo repository, so it must be installed via deb, we must use Gainroot (found in the file manager).

Follow these steps to install Stellarium:

  1. Get the deb file and copy the documents folder of N900.
  2. Enter to the X-Terminal and type:
    root
    dpkg -i /home/usr/MyDocs/stellarium_0.10.3r4182-1_armel.deb
  3. If it gives an error after installation, type this:
    root
    apt-get install libqt4-maemo5-core libqt4-maemo5-opengl libqt4-maemo5-network libqt4-maemo5-gui
    libqt4-maemo5-script libqt4-maemo5-svg libqt4-maemo5-test libqt4-maemo5-xml libqt4-maemo5-dbus

Love the program! Look forward to updates on this. You should push it through extras-devel though, since it requires packages in extras anyway. Even if it’s not open-souce they have a non-free area that you can push debs to. Check the mailing lists, there was a recent talk on it there.

The N900 does’nt have a compass. Will you be able to use the accelerometer to navigate (almost like pointing in a direction)?
Do you have to connect to the internet to use this programme?
