    n900 is a debian based == linux machine. reading the above looks like a bunch of windows users or newbs. if you’re not familiar with command lines or how linux/java etc works, it’d best you wait when the java apps get into the maemo repo or perhaps hacking n900 innards isn’t up your alley (yet)

    on a worst case scenario, being an inexperienced root user, you could possibly brick the phone.

    stick with the microB or get released firefox.

    Before 1.: you need to import the right repository (Maemo Extras, Extras Testing, Extras Devel)… dont know which one. If you have a old firmware, you have a search button. In version 1.2 you can search via keyboard (category: all)

  42. Sheeraz says:

    Hi Guys,

    I got it working (I mean only the emulator but not the actual application as it failed to load). Whoever request a step-by-step guide please follow the below steps which is copied version original steps defined here but in more lay man style;

    1) I am assuming you have installed the required Icedtea6 on your N900 from Application Manager and Microemulator on your PC.

    2) Simply unzip the file using Winrar or Winzip on PC and copy the whole folder in any directory you want on your N900 Memory say ”/home/user/MyDocs/Microemulator” using Data Cable/Remote Desktop whatever you want to use.

    3) Open “Terminal” on your N900 apply following command
    $ sudo gainroot <– You need to download rootsh to successfully execute that.

    4) Above command will give you root access to the device and you'll see prompt like '/home/user # ' prompt.

    5) Apply following command to copy Microemulator directory into /opt;
    /home/user # cp -R /home/user/MyDocs/Microemulator /opt

    6) Apply following command to execute the emulator;
    /home/user # java -jar /opt/Microemulator/microemulator.jar

    7) Aboev command will open up a emulator from which you can simply navigate and load '*.jar' and have fun.

    Hope this helps;

    Sheeraz

    Guys
    I installed java first. Installation went fine. My sample java program too worked fine.
    When I installed (extracted it to /opt and then after navigating to /opt/microemulator-2.0.4/ executed java -jar microemulator.jar)
    It started microemulator and as suggested on this site above, I went to Options > Select device
    it showed me two options under heading ‘installed devices’
    – Default device (default)
    – Resizable device
    I selected ‘Resizable device’ and clicked Ok, which then showed me screen
    Launcher
    no modules

    Same message comes for default device too. any idea what I need to do?
