Android on Nokia N900

Already we have spoken other times of the NITDroid project, a project that pretence to carry the operating system Android to our Nokia N900. Although still not stable, and can make calls, Internet browsing, etc. NITDroid project is very close to that we can choose an operating system for our N900, along with Maemo and Meego.

NITDroid is available in the Extras-Devel repository. To learn more about repositories, click here.

  5. dominique says:

    i have tried to install nitdroid, but i’ve waited over an hour when it said it was formatting. Nothing has happend. Do i need to wait even longer or do i do something wrong?

    Kind regards,
    Dominique

  6. Jose says:

    is not in the Extras-Devel repository, did you removed it?

  7. tmod says:

    @arch_
    It messes with microSD. The only change made to the phone memory is the installation of a boot loader so you can choose between NITDroid and Maemo at phone start up.

    @dominique
    I had a similar problem where that step was taking forever and nothing was happening. It’s supposed to take all of 15 seconds at most and I kept trying the install until it finally worked. Either that or try the manual install method here: http://wiki.nitdroid.com/index.php?title=N900-install

  8. luckymanshp says:

    It is not in Extras-devel, when i do apt-get in x-terminal, it says package not found. I cannot see it thru application manager either.

  9. luckymanshp says:

    FOR PPL WHO CANT INSTALL NITDROID:
    Just enable all repos and then open x-terminal and
    type ‘root’ press enter.
    type ‘apt-get install nitdroid-installer’ and u r good to go!!! Enjoy

    thanks for the answer. ill try it :)

  11. maxen says:

    do i need a memory card 2 install dis?
    wht should be the minimum size of MMC?
    plz reply

  12. tmod says:

    @maxen

    Yes you need a memory card to install this. The size of the Android partition has to be 2 GB so if you use any SD card larger than 2 GB it will be split into 2 partitions. One will be 2 GB where nitdroid will be installed and the other will be the remaining space for regular storage.

    Are there issues in making phone calls or has that been resolved. I cant get any signal whatsoever

  20. magik says:

    saurabh I asked a similar question but nobody answered.from what I have read I think it will automatically update from the repo’s when a newer version comes out.when its out I’m not sure but I presume it will be soon if there is a video of it making calls.

  21. saurabh says:

    I reinstalled it again, now im getting the network and it also makes the call but both parties can only hear static sounds
